Gisele Bundchen retires from the runway
Gasp!
Gisele Bundchen is saying goodbye to the catwalk.
The supermodel and wife of NFL star Tom Brady has announced she is retiring from the runway after 20 years.
Her appearance Wednesday night at Sao Paulo Fashion Week would be the last runway walk of her career, said Bundchen 34, who strutted her stuff for Colcci, the Brazilian streetwear label she has represented since 2005.
Brady had a front row seat for the farewell show.
The model and mom took a little walk down memory lane early Wednesday on Instagram, saying, "I am grateful that at 14, I was given the opportunity to start this journey. Today after 20 years in the industry, it is a privilege to be doing my last fashion show by choice and yet still be working in other facets of the business."
Why stop?
Bundchen, who earned $47 million last year, according to Forbes, says her body is telling her the time is right.
"Automatically my body tells me if what I do is worth it, and it asked to stop," Bundchen said in an interview with a Brazilian newspaper on Saturday. I respect my body. It's a privilege to be able to stop."
She adds that she is not retiring from all work. She just wants to devote herself to other projects and her family. She and Brady have two kids, Benjamin, 5, and Vivian, 2.
