CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two people have been charged after a child was accidentally shot with an unsecured firearm.
The shooting happened on Wheatside Drive near University City Boulevard around 8 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
A 4-year-old was taken to the hospital by his dad after the shooting. Police responded to the hospital after learning the child suffered a gunshot wound. The child suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting, according to police.
Leeshawn Brooks, the child's father, and Paris Perry have both been charged with felony child abuse, firearm by felon, possession of a stolen firearm and storage of firearms to protect minors.
CMPD did not specifically state if the shooting was self-inflicted or the result of someone else accidentally shooting them.
