Archdale shooting suspect arrested days later in Kannapolis, police say

The manhunt started Tuesday morning when police said Joshua Arquette walked inside Carolina Container and fired multiple shots.

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Police said the Kannapolis Police Department arrested Joshua Arquette days after a shooting at Carolina Container in Archdale.

Archdale police said Arquette was arrested at the Oyo Hotel at 3100 Cloverleaf Parkway in Kannapolis Friday night.

The manhunt started Tuesday morning when police said Arquette walked inside Carolina Container and fired multiple shots around 9:07 a.m. Detectives said Arquette has never been an employee at a Carolina Container location.

Police said no one was hurt in the shooting on Tuesday, and Arquette took off in a white pickup truck.

Then, around 10 a.m., police said they received multiple calls from Thompson Heath Road and Beckerdite Road. Neighbors reported a man carrying firearms, knocking on doors, going through cars, and asking to use a phone. Investigators said Arquette dumped the white pickup truck in this area and stole a silver Nissan truck.

The stolen Nissan truck was found on Corriher Grange Road in Rowan County shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday. Investigators there said Arquette is a "career felon" with various charges going back as far as 20 years in several counties. Most of his charges have come out of Cabarrus and, now, Randolph counties.

Arquette had a warrant for arrest from several jurisdictions.

Charges pending in Archdale:

  • Felony possession of a firearm by a felon
  • Felony discharge a weapon in occupied property
  • Misdemeanor assault with deadly weapon
  • Misdemeanor injury to personal property
  • Misdemeanor discharge firearm in city

Charges pending in Randolph County:

  • Felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle
  • Felony larceny of motor vehicle
  • Misdemeanor injury to real property

Charges pending in Davidson County:

  • Two counts felony larceny of a firearm
  • Felony larceny of a motor vehicle
  • Felony break/enter motor vehicle

Carolina Container did not provide comment on the shooting.

Several Randolph County schools went on lockdown or a partial lockdown during the investigation.

Multiple agencies are credited with capturing Arquette, including the United States Marshall Service, Kannapolis Police Department, Rowan County Sheriff's Office, and the various agencies within the Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force.
