CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Good news for those cooped up inside with this rainy, cold weather in the Charlotte area this weekend.
WCNC Charlotte Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich said Monday's weather is shaping up to look much nicer than we've seen the past few days.
"Low pressure is still in the area," Panovich explained.
But that could be good news for us here at home. Panovich said if that low pressure comes off the mountains, it could help dry us out in Charlotte.
"As long as the low stays to our northeast or even drifts a little further up north, it's good for us," Panovich said.
However, he said if the low pressure drifts west, it could push more rain into our area.
"For the first time in days, we're actually seeing some of the warmest temperatures we've had since midnight early Saturday morning," Panovich said.
Panovich said while it won't be 100% rain-free in the Charlotte area, it'll be miles better than what we've seen this weekend.
"As we go into the afternoon, there's some chance for a few stray showers," Panovich explained.
Panovich said if we do happen to get a couple of rain showers, this system is moving quickly and wouldn't stay on us too long.
The races at the Charlotte Motor Speedway will now run on Memorial Day with the NASCAR Xfinity Series 300-mile event starting after the NASCAR Cup Series 600-mile event, which is slated to start at 3 p.m.
Panovich said he is optimistic that the rain will hold off for those two events.
"If there's going to be an issue with a pop-up shower it's going to be for the 600 race," Panovich said.
