Homicide investigation underway after shooting in east Charlotte

CMPD officers at the scene said this is the 99th homicide in Charlotte this year.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a homicide in east Charlotte. 

According to police, the incident happened Tuesday night in the 1700 block of Pegram Street. 

Around 7:15 p.m., officers responded to Pegram Street after reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. When officers arrived, they found 30-year-old Robert Lee Darby had been shot.

He was taken to Atrium CMC by Medic, and was pronounced dead at the hospital. 

No suspect information was available.

CMPD officers at the scene said this is the 99th homicide in Charlotte this year.
