CMPD make arrest in string of armed robberies

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detectives charged a man who allegedly the suspect in a string of armed robberies this month in Charlotte.

Police identified the armed robber as Kenneth Massey and on Saturday, they saw his vehicle on Beatties Ford Road near Interstate 85 around 6:41 p.m. May 26.

Massey did not pull over when police tried to conduct a traffic stop, which then led to a pursuit into South Carolina.

The suspect drove down I-85, through Gaston County and into Cherokee County, SC,  exited off onto U.S. Highway 29 then back onto the interstate.

South Carolina Highway Patrol joined in on the pursuit and stop sticks were deployed in Gaffney, disabling Massey’s car tires.

The suspect stopped the car and was taken into custody.

Massey was charged in connection with the robberies on May 20, 7-Eleven at 3800 Central Avenue, May 20, Subway at 335 S. Kings Drive, May 22, Subway at 9548 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road and May 22, Dollar General at 7322 The Plaza.

Massey was also charged in connection with an attempted robbery at the Subway at 1300 The Plaza.
