Two people treated for life-threatening injuries after east Charlotte shootings

Contrary to initial reports of two separate shootings, police say the two incidents were connected.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two people are being treated for life-threatening injuries after being shot in east Charlotte, officials say.

At 5:18 p.m., Charlotte Mecklenburg Police say they received multiple calls regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. Officers located two people with gunshot wounds -- both were taken to the hospital.

Initial reports said the two shootings were unrelated, one occurring in the 7500 block of Eastbourne Road and one in the 6000 block of Balsam Fir Drive. However, CMPD has since clarified -- the incidents happened in one location but the individuals left and went to separate locations after.

The two were shot in the 5800 block of Reddman Road, police say. Officials tell NBC Charlotte that one person went to the Eastbourne Road address and the other went to the Balsam Fir Drive address, which is why Medic responded to multiple calls.

At this time, officials have not released any suspect information, nor have they said if anyone else was involved in the incident.

"It sounded pretty loud," said Kayla Bennett, a resident of the apartment complex where police say the shooting occurred. "It wasn't that close, but it was very realistic there."
