CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman was shot near uptown Friday afternoon, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police confirmed.
It happened around 3:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Fonta Avenue. Police said the 19-year-old victim was shot one time inside her vehicle. She was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
The victim's vehicle was struck by multiple bullets, investigators said.
The suspect, 26-year-old Dondrae Stewart, was found nearby on Oaklawn Ave. Police said a gun was recovered during the investigation.
Stewart was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, shooting into an occupied dwelling (vehicle), and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Investigators were working to figure out the motive behind the shooting.
