Charlotte area high school football teams punished for fighting

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) is scouting several teams for the wrong reasons, including D.H. Conley and South Central.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — New numbers Tuesday showed more high school football teams are being punished because of fights on the field in North Carolina.

Six teams have been disqualified from the state playoffs because of fighting.

"Oh, them boys are fighting," said a Charlotte woman reacting to fight from October 29.

The penalties are piling on for several Charlotte area high school football teams. Fans from Hickory Ridge and East Mecklenburg High Schools witnessed some big hits, but not between the lines. Both schools were forced to forfeit their final two games and the state playoffs.

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) is scouting several teams for the wrong reasons, including D.H. Conley and South Central. In a video, you can see football players actually fighting fans and coaches confronting other coaches face-to-face.

"This is your fault," said one coach. "I'm blaming your kids."

Both schools were heavily penalized.

Several parents are frustrated with the NCHSAA's decision because these teams have seniors that won't get to play in their final games, and their high school athletic careers are likely over.
