ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A Rowan County man is on the run after deputies said he stabbed his girlfriend multiple times during an argument Sunday night.
The Rowan County Sheriff's Office responded to a call for a stabbing at a home on Thunder Road in China Grove a little after 10 p.m. When deputies arrived, they found the victim, a 28-year-old woman, with several stab wounds. Her cellphone and cash were stolen by the suspect, police said. She was taken to Carolinas Medical Center Northeast in Concord for treatment.
Deputies identified 33-year-old Michael Timothy Battle as the suspect in the assault. Deputies obtained warrants against Battle for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill robbery with a dangerous weapon and second-degree kidnapping. Early Monday, police in Cornelius spotted a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot and identified Battle as the driver. After a short chase, Battle was able to escape officers. In addition to the charges related to the assault, Battle is wanted for failure to pay child support.
