Ivanka Trump personally thanks Mooresville fire crews after Florence recovery

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- First daughter and white house adviser, Ivanka Trump was in Mooresville today to tour the NASCAR Technical Institute where she promoted the need for more skilled workers in today’s evolving economy.

But while in town, she also took the time to praise the work of first responders, who helped in the aftermath of hurricane Florence.

Firefighters with Mooresville Fire Rescue spent 5 days in Brunswick County, performing water rescues and helping victims of the hurricane.

“I remember a Toyota Tundra completely under water. The lady was worried to death about her cats and we didn’t want them to ride into the flood waters, so we here have several drones. We were able to fly up and make sure the water hadn’t gone into her home,” recalls Captain Ryan Harrell.

Never did they expect a thank you from the White House, but Wednesday, the president’s daughter, delivered her gratitude in person.

“It was awesome,” said Fire Chief Curt Deaton, “We were just a part of a lot of teams that did a lot of great work and having her here was humbling.”

But the firefighters weren’t the only ones excited to see the first daughter. A group of kids from a daycare across the street kept yelling Ivanka’s name, hoping they too would get a chance to meet her.

“And when they saw her coming they were so excited to see her come over and speak to them,” says Kimi Stutts, who works at the daycare.

Stutts says Ivanka said hello to the kids and told them they should also thank the firefighters, saying they are the ones deserving of the recognition.
