Ballantyne pizzeria employee spotted handling food with bare hands

An employee with a popular Ballantyne pizzeria was seen touching peppers with bare hands, a big no-no.

Consumer investigative reporter Bill McGinty combs through the health inspection reports to bring you what's going on in Charlotte-area kitchens.

A popular uptown pub makes the restaurant report card for the wrong reasons. BlackFinn Ameripub in uptown Charlotte was docked for storing raw tuna with the ready-to-eat chicken wings, a big no-no.

Their sweet potatoes were made the night before and were not labeled. And there were fruit flies buzzing the bar.

Their grade here? A 90.5, a low “A.”

Next up, the Anzi Pizzeria on Ardrey Kell in the Ballantyne area. One of their employees was seen touching peppers with bare hands, a big no-no.

They had feta and cut tomatoes in the flip-top prep for four hours. That stuff was tossed out. They still had lasagna that was made back on September 1, which was 10 days old at the time of inspection.

Their grade here at Anzi? A 90, that too is a low “A” grade.

Last up this week, the lowest grade on the report was La Unica Supercenter on South Blvd.

They had an employee handling raw meat, then cooking food, but not washing in between. The health inspector saw a live roach inside the meat case and there were fruit flies in the back kitchen. A Pest control company was called that day.

Their grade here? An 86.5, a mid-level “B”.
