School employee accused of sexually assaulting 2 Independence High School students

A CMS employee is accused of sexually assaulting two then-students in a span of eight years.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- An employee with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is accused of sexually assaulting two then-students at Independence High School over an eight-year span.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police launched an investigation after they received information regarding a sexual assault taking place at Independence.

A 15-year-old female victim told CMPD a man, later identified as 52-year-old Brad Gibson, sexually assaulted her earlier in the year while she was a student at Independence. The victim told CMPD the assaults happened at the school.

During the investigation, CMPD identified a second victim. The second victim, who was 17 at the time of the incident, told police Gibson sexually assaulted her in 2010 while she attended Independence.

Gibson voluntarily came to CMPD's headquartered where he was interviewed by detectives. Following the interview, Gibson was arrested and charged with six counts of indecent liberties with a student and three counts of indecent liberties with a minor.

Gibson was the school's ROTC instructor.

Independence High School released a statement following Gibson's arrest:

"Independence High School Families,
