Vigil held for 3-month-old who died after tree crashed through home

Dozens of people came together, surrounding Kade's parents and sharing in their pain. They sang "Amazing Grace" and shared Bible verses and memories of Kade.

DALLAS, N.C. — Tuesday night people in Gaston County remembered the life of a three-month-old infant who died in Florence’s path.

Kade Gill died Sunday afternoon after police said a tree fell on his parents’ mobile home in Dallas.

Friends and family gathered near the home Tuesday night for a candlelight memorial honoring the infant’s life.

“He was a fighter, like he had a great spirit, very strong and just whenever I was around him, it just made me feel great just being around him, just being in his presence,” said Joyce Gill, Kade’s aunt.

Dozens of people came together, surrounding Kade’s parents and sharing in their pain. They sang “Amazing Grace” and shared Bible verses and memories of Kade.

“Very, very hard for them [Kade’s parents],” Gill said. “They’re taking it very hard, and it hurts my heart to see them go through so much pain because I hurt, and so I can only imagine how they feel.”

Family members said they are leaning on each other and asking for prayers as they search for answers.

“You always hear about it in the newspaper and everywhere else around the world,” Gill said, “but you never think it’s going to happen to your loved one, not in a million years.”

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses and the costs associated with relocating since their home was damaged so severely by the tree.
