Crews work around the clock to restore power, clear debris

Sanitation workers and lineman are hard at work helping residents of Charlotte get back to normal after Florence.

Storm cleanup is happening all across Charlotte as people are raking up their yards and linemen are restoring power.

As a sanitation technician, it’s Joshua Hamilton’s job to pick up limbs, logs, and debris collected after the storm.

“The more work they put out here the more fun we have,” said Hamilton with Charlotte Solid Waste Services.

Charlotte Solid Waste Services hopes to have everyone’s debris cleaned up by Saturday.

“What we’re focusing on now is clean up as much as we can so it helps them out, helps us out, and everybody’s happy,” said Hamilton.

To make his job easier, Hamilton explained the proper way to set out your debris for pick-up. If you can, cut limbs down to five feet with piles no longer than three feet high and two feet apart.

“That would be awesome,” said Hamilton who explained they will pick up what they can now, but send out pick slips to explain the proper way to set out waste for pick-up.

All across town, you’ll also see linemen restoring internet and power.

With more than 200,000 customers in the Greater Charlotte area who experienced power outages, Duke Energy has restored all but about 3,000.

Duke Energy hopes to have power restored for everyone by Wednesday night at the latest.
