Woman getting juice for baby rescued in Food Lion parking lot

The woman's white sedan was left stranded in grocery store parking lot as waters continued to rise.

MONROE, N.C. -- She went to the Food Lion to get juice for her baby. She didn't realize how deep the waters were. A police officer stepped in to save the day.

Monroe (N.C.) Police Officer Ricky Kilian said it happened in the parking lot of a Food Lion in Monroe, N.C. Sunday afternoon as what was once Hurricane Florence continued to dump heavy rain on the Carolinas as it made its slow trek across the region.

According to Kilian, the young mother plowed her vehicle into the floodwater and quickly realized it was too much. By that point, the water came up to her vehicle's bumper. She called police.

Officer Kilian said the fire department showed up at the same time that he did and were able to rescue the woman out of the car.
