'I don’t know you, but I forgive you' | Gas station shooting victim doesn't hold a grudge

Qdarius Hamer's brother was also shot. The suspect, 25-year-old Darryl Hinson Jr., is now facing charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.

NBC Charlotte is learning new details about a double shooting at an Exxon gas station in York on Thursday afternoon.

The suspect, 25-year-old Darryl Hinson Jr., is now facing charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.

York Police say he shot two men at the front entrance of the On the Run gas station on East Alexander Love Highway.

“I was staring down the barrel of 12 gauge shotgun yesterday [Thursday],” Qdarius Hamer told NBC Charlotte.

The 25-year-old said he froze in his tracks.

“I just, I’m gonna die, and when he pulled the gun up and aimed, I just turned, boom,” said Hamer. “I got six holes in my shoulder.”

Hamer said he ran for cover at a nearby Waffle House, but Hinson kept shooting.

“He’s loading the gun cocking it and shooting it. Bong, bong!" said Hinson.

Those bullets hit Hamer’s 40-year-old brother in the stomach. Police and witnesses told NBC Charlotte Hinson turned the gun on himself after shooting the brothers. April Parker saw it all.

“The guy was standing there next to a car when I heard a big pop and a big puff of smoke, and he collapsed,” Parker said.

Hamer said he doesn’t know the reasoning behind his near-death experience but believes it all started when Hinson overheard a conversation between the two brothers.

“I said, 'Don’t no man put fear in my heart,” said Hamer. “Soon as I said that, he come around the car, he’s loading the gun.”

Hamer said he’s not holding any grudges.

“I don’t know you, but I forgive you, man,” said Hamer. “Like I’m not an animal, we are humans just like you.”

Detectives are preparing arrest warrants for Hinson. He will officially be charged once he is released from the hospital which could take some time.
