A north Charlotte Wendy's employee was arrested after police said he fired a shotgun round into a customer's car during a fight in the drive-thru lane early Friday morning. The incident happened around 1:30 at the Wendy's on Sunset Road.
Police said two customers ordered food and were waiting when an employee brought their food out. At the time, the customers and employee got into an argument that turned into a fight. While they were fighting, a second worker came outside and fired a shotgun blast into the customer's vehicle.
Police have not identified the suspect or his charges at this time.
Mooresville Police responded to a call from a Verizon Wireless store on River Highway Thursday afternoon. A caller told authorities a woman exited her car and left a small child behind. The car was not running and the windows were up, according to police.
"She was in a right place at the right time, divine intervention if you will," said Gerald Childress, Mooresville deputy police chief. "Had she not been there, we may be looking at a totally different situation here."
The child was treated at the scene and was not taken to the hospital. Police later located and arrested the driver, identified as 30-year-old Sarah Hunt, and 27-year-old Brandon Burris. Both were charged with misdemeanor child abuse and were taken to jail.
According to CMPD, the teen told investigators he was voluntarily at a friend's house in the 8300 block of Highlander Court in north Charlotte Sunday night. While the teen was at the house, a group of suspects began making accusations against the male subject and proceeded to tie him to a chair and then attacked him with a machete and a baseball bat, according to CMPD.
The teen later freed himself, fled the residence Wednesday morning and then approached a neighbor telling her to call 911. The teen then called a family member to pick him up and once he was picked up, they then moved to another location, where CMPD said officers were able to speak with him.
During the investigation, CMPD was able to develop "probable causes" on four suspects and obtained warrants for their arrests. Officers later located all four of the suspects and charged them in connection with the kidnapping case. Click here to see the suspects' identities and their charges.
After several days of questioning whether the Hornets would trade Kemba Walker to move up in the draft (they did not), new general manager Mitch Kupchak did make a trade on draft night.
But instead of moving the franchise's all-time leading scorer, the Hornets' brass agreed to essentially move back one spot in the draft in exchange for two future draft picks from the Los Angeles Clippers. The end result was Charlotte landing Michigan State forward Miles Bridges with the No. 12 overall selection.
The 6-foot-7 Bridges was a unanimous All-Big 10 first team chose after averaging 17 points and seven rebounds last season for the Spartans. He gives the Hornets more options at small forward behind Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.
The Conners will go on without matriarch Roseanne.
ABC Thursday picked up "The Conners," the tentatively titled spinoff of the hit comedy "Roseanne" with no financial or creative connection to that show's star and executive producer, Roseanne Barr. Other cast regulars will be part of the new comedy.
The network last month canceled "Roseanne" after a racist tweet by Barr. ABC already had renewed the comedy, a revival of the 1988-1997 original that became the TV season's top-rated show, for this fall.
The 10-episode spinoff will premiere this fall, in the same Tuesday at 8 EDT/PDT time slot that was the planned home for Season 2 of "Roseanne."
A description of the series suggests that Barr's character, Roseanne Conner, has passed away: "After a sudden turn of events, the Conners are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before," ABC says ominously, as "Dan, Jackie, Darlene, Becky and D.J. grapple with parenthood, dating, an unexpected pregnancy, financial pressures, aging and in-laws in working-class America."
