Over 15M gallons of sewage spilled into Charlotte creek

Over 15 million gallons of sewage spilled into a Charlotte creek after officials said persistent rain knocked a tree down, breaking a pipe.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Over 15 million gallons of sewage spilled into a Charlotte creek after officials said persistent rain knocked a tree down, breaking a pipe.

According to Charlotte Water, the incident happened near Oakdale Road in northwest Charlotte Monday. Recent heavy rains caused the erosion of the banks of Long Creek, allowing the fallen tree to break a 30-foot wastewater pipe.

Authorities said drinking water for the area was not affected by the spill.
