Couple married 50 years dies just hours apart

YORK COUNTY, S.C. -- Tributes are pouring in for a local couple married 50 years who died just hours apart.

Malcolm and Ginger Combs passed away on March 18 at their home at Sun City Carolina Lakes. Ginger, 74, died around 11 a.m. Malcolm, also 74, followed at 7 p.m.

The pair fell in love as kids in High Point, North Carolina and traveled the world together, going to Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and Hawaii.

Malcolm was the co-founder of Sharin’ Foodservices, an avid golfer and member of Jaycee’s in Kernersville, North Carolina.

Ginger retired from Wachovia and loved spending time with her grandchildren, taking photos, quilting and sewing. She even made her own wedding dress.

Their son said the family is grieving, but they're thankful for the couple's commitment to each other and their family.

"I think that God had a plan. His plan was that He would take her first at 11 Sunday morning. Without her, I don't think Dad could have found his way, and I think she went by at seven o'clock Sunday night grabbed his hand and said 'you're coming with me,'" said Tim Combs.

The couple's funeral was Thursday at Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill. Burial was at Olive Grove Baptist Church in Pinnacle, North Carolina.

The Combses left behind a son, a daughter and seven grandchildren.
