911 calls released in armed guard robbery, police continue search for suspects

The crime happened while the Loomis guard was servicing an ATM in a busy shopping center in Matthews. The two suspects remain on the loose.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A massive manhunt continues after an armed guard was robbed at gunpoint.

The crime happened while the Loomis guard was servicing an ATM in a busy shopping center in Matthews. The two suspects remain on the loose.

Now, NBC Charlotte has obtained the 911 call, which has the armed guard describing the armed robbery to the dispatcher.

“I’m an armored truck driver, I was working on a machine, and two guys robbed me,” the guard said to the dispatcher.

The armed guard was outnumbers and outgunned.

“Did they have a weapon?,” asks the dispatcher. “Yes, both had guns,” the guard responded.

“Obviously they had planned it out and possibly had done it before, having each side of him covered like that,” says Officer Tim Aycock with the Matthews Police Department.

Police say the armed truck driver, a Loomis employee, was robbed while working on the ATM.

“Our concern is they go to a whole other level of robbing someone that is trained and carrying a weapon, that is a whole other serious situation to worry about,” says Officer Aycock.

The major police response led to multiple school lock downs on Thursday at around lunchtime. Shayna Grogan described her relief when she got her daughter back.

“Once I had her in my custody, I was much better,” Grogan told NBC Charlotte previously.

“Did you see what direction they went in?,” the dispatcher asks. “Yeah, they ran off in the woods beside me,” the guard responds.

The urgent manhunt now continues. Police are trying to identify the two gunmen before they strike again.

“That’s always a concern, because that seems to be their method of operation, I think anyone at an ATM is vulnerable,” says Officer Aycock. “We’re trying to keep their pictures out there and working on that to keep it as the hot topic of the day to try to get information as we possibly can.”

If you have any information about the case or the suspects, call Matthews police immediately.
