Toys R Us liquidation sale isn’t today. Here’s what we know

Shoppers eager to snag deals from the Toys R Us liquidation sale waited out in the cold Thursday morning for the store to open in Pineville, only to learn the sale wasn't happening. At least not on Thursday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Shoppers eager to snag deals from the Toys R Us liquidation sale waited out in the cold Thursday morning for the store to open in Pineville, only to learn the sale wasn't’t happening. At least not on Thursday.

According to a sign posted on the door to the Toys R Us on Carolina Place Parkway, “We understand there may have been reports of our liquidation sale starting today. We apologize for any confusion the media may have conveyed on our liquidation sale start dale, however, we do not have confirmation as to when liquidation sale will begin. Please check back with us for further information and updates.”

Toys R Us announced earlier this month it's planning to sell or close all of its U.S. stores, including Babies R Us locations by April 15.

The company filed for bankruptcy protection in September and since then lackluster holiday sales and heavy debt has taken a toll.

WCNC NBC Charlotte reached out to Toys R Us to find out when the liquidation sale would start. “They have likely been delayed until tomorrow,” a spokesperson responded.

A sign posted on the door to Babies R Us in the Carolina Pavilion said, “Due to circumstances beyond our Team Member’s control, all liquidation sales have been postponed until further notice. We are sorry for any inconvenience.”

There was still plenty of inventory being sold at full price at the Charlotte Babies R Us location and the Pineville Toys R Us. Babies R Us is no longer able to order furniture of any kind, but boxes of furniture already in stock was placed at the front of the store with price tags.

Shelves in the video gaming area of Toys R Us was low for Nintendo 3DS, Xbox 360, and PS4.

It’s not known what kind of discounts Toys R Us and Babies R Us will be offering during the liquidation sale.
