Eight more people in North Carolina have died of the flu, bringing the total to 328 total flu deaths from the flu.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Eight more people in North Carolina have died of the flu, bringing the total to 328 total flu deaths from the flu.

The numbers were released Thursday by the North Carolina Division of Public Health. The eight new deaths were reported during the week of March 11 to March 17.

The flue is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times lead to death. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting vaccinated each year.
