CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one of its own.
Deputy Sheriff Sylvia Deese died Sunday afternoon after suffering a "medical event" early Friday while working off-duty, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
Deese was known by her peers as "Mama Deese," according to deputies.
"Our deepest condolences go out to her son who works as a dispatcher with MCSO and her husband," the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office said on its public Facebook page.
Officials did not specify Deese's medical event.
