Rain and storm chance this afternoon

Big temperature changes this weekend

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Friday & Friday Night

Clouds will mix in with sunshine today as we hit the last day in the mid 80s for at least a week. Highs peak right around 85 degrees, so warmer than average but not close to any records.

An approaching cold front will trigger scattered storms this afternoon and evening. For the mountains, it'll be after 4 p.m. while closer to 6 p.m. for the Charlotte metro. Some of these storms could become strong to severe with gusty winds (60+ mph) and small hail (dime-to-quarter sized). Storms will wrap up overnight with mild lows.

Weekend Forecast

Saturday will be the last day of the week with above-average temperatures! Highs will be in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. There's only an isolated chance for a shower or storm, so most of the day looks great.

Sunday brings a rainy and chilly forecast. Widespread rain moves into the Carolinas, but even when it's not raining, it'll be cloudy and cool with highs only reaching 60 degrees. Rain will taper off by Saturday evening and overnight into Monday.

Pollen Report

The pollen count will continue to be high through Saturday across the Charlotte area. Tree pollen is the main cause of high pollen levels for mid-April before these numbers eventually taper off by mid-late May.

However, rainy conditions on Sunday should wash away some of the mess on the ground, so expect a minor break both Sunday and through Monday. Pollen levels will ramp up again mid-next week.
