Warmer temps expected to bring out pesky insects

Ladybugs are easy to get rid of when you locate their entry. Ants aren't that easy. They only need 1/64 of an inch to enter your home.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- After a brief but freezing cold winter, you probably aren't complaining about the recent warmer temperatures in the Carolinas but your attitude might change once the mosquitoes start biting.

Viewers have sent in photos of little critters doing big-time damage.

Jonathan from ClearDefense Pest Control allowed NBC Charlotte to follow him on a call to a home in Steele Creek.

"I was just telling him you guys had a serious black widow issue at one point," Jonathan told the homeowner.

Fortunately for them, the ClearDefense team of technicians got the life-threatening situation under control and the now the deadly spiders are gone.

However, as Spring approaches, he says you should expect to see more bugs.

"In the Carolinas [bug season] is all year long," Jonathan said.

Lady bugs are usually running rampant in the fall and while you might think one or two could bring you good luck, finding 40-50 in your home is alarming.

"They actually are a friend to pest-control providers because they will eat other bugs," Jonathan said.

Ladybugs are easy to get rid of when you locate their entry. Ants aren't that easy. They only need 1/64 of an inch to enter your home.

"They're like water in concrete, they will find a crack," he said. "They could be traveling across the street just to get to your gummy bear."

If a couple of swats can't keep them away then your best bet is to call the experts.

Pest control can be as cheap as $40 per month.
