CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte Mecklenburg Police said several people were shot just outside of Ballantyne Friday night.

It happened just before 6:00 p.m. in the 11000 block of Kingston Place Drive. CMPD said three male victims in a car outside an apartment complex were approached by two male suspects with guns.

Investigators determined two of the victims, in their late teens, were shot as they tried to run away. The victims were identified as 19-year-old Kyle Lane and 19-year-old Maxim Aleynikov. Detectives said a third victim shot one of the suspects who also ran off.

Authorities said their initial investigation showed that the suspect 25-year-old John Ravon Butler allegedly shot Lane. After lane was shot, Aleynikov fought with Butler over the control of his gun resulting in Butler being shot in his torso.

A second suspect was identified as 28-year-old Frankie Junior Jennings. Authorities believe Jennings allegedly shot 20-year-old Travis Lane in the leg while they were involved in a physical confrontation.

"Not only did Jennings shoot Travis Lane but it appears that he ended up shooting himself in the arm as well," CMPD said.

Police said after the shooting, a male showed up at a home on Valley Spring Drive with a gunshot wound, but he left before first responders arrived on scene. Investigators believe the male was one of the suspects.

About an hour later, Butler showed up at Carolinas Medical Center, seeking treatment for the gunshot wound to his torso. Jennings also sought treatment for his gunshot wound in his arm and went to Presbyterian Hospital at 6:56.

CMPD detectives said they signed warrants on both suspects for the charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon, and shooting into an occupied vehicle. Once the two suspects are released from the hospital, CMPD will serve their warrants and they will be transferred to the Mecklenburg County Jail.

Everyone who was shot had injuries that were not life threatening. If you know anything about this case, call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or visit the website.
